Overseeding Grassland

Morning all.

Thinking of trying to improve some permanent grassland here. Cant plough most of it as I don't particularly fancy spending the rest of my working life picking stones and repairing stone drains. Was planning on burning the old sward off, grazing bare then using a slot seeder/direct drill and follow with a good rolling.

Just wondering what peoples experiences/opinions were about this method of reseeding any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There are specialist over seed mixtures available, I have customers who have had success with a standard grass ley mixture.

I've attached a little guide to overseeding which may help.

How is it to be managed after, there is no point spending money on new pasture if its going to be mistreated ,
If you are to rent out fir instance , a tenant may not look after the ground like you would yourself

Did 2 fields in the autumn, sprayed off with glyphosate and cyren and direct drilled with a Moore drill.
One field has come very well but the other was taken by slugs. Could see the grass coming up on one on a saturday but nothing on the other. Had agronomist to look at it on the monday and put slug pellets on on the tuesday but it was too late.

One plus point of doing this over ploughing/reseeding is the ground stays firm which has helped no end when grazing with sheep over an exceptionally wet winter.
