Parlour building width

Got a new shed to go up which will house a 50 degree herringbone parlour, cows will do a U turn after the parlour and back down on themselves (not ideal I know but I really haven't got much choice) through a return race with footbath etc and seg gate. How wide do I need the shed?

Thanks

Ours is 30 foot wide and still get bottle necks. I don't think our exit is long enough and find cows stand in the corner blocking exit for others as well. Planning on putting the seg gate and foot bath too. Would like to put slatted channels where heavy traffic is and to stop muck builld up. I don't know if this is true, but seams to be here they turn left better than right. I could be wrong though.

Rather than slatted channels have you considered a flood wash? I was thinking the same as you but went with the flood wash, parlour and dairy washings are pumped into an above ground tank and released through flaps in the concrete to wash the floor down after scraping, the advantage being that you don’t get a slippery build up of muck in hot dry weather.

As for the OP, ours is in a 50 foot wide shed, with the race being down the far side which gives the cows a 90 degree turn out of the parlour and a more swept entry to the race with penning in between.
