Who is the Boumatic agent for the area? I don't think there is one.

Not sure what brand the new robots are. If I were a betting man I would put money on them being Lely, but who knows with the University, they make the most peculiar decisions.
Was up there for the open day a few weeks ago, the robots are DeLaval.

Our local de-Laval man is packing up so we’ve been called to two de-Laval parlours lately, their comments were de-Laval robots customers weren’t happy with.
So who knows if the university did the right thing

Never used silage pit,I was thinking if the university could produce the next crop of good welsh farmers it would have been money well spent,
But blatant waste is not on.

Nobody goes to Aberystwyth University to learn how to farm. Or they might do but won't. It's been a total shambles in my opinion for several decades. Aspiring farmers went to the Welsh Agricultural College at Llanbadarn Fawr, just a couple of miles away, which had its own few farms and was generally well run and its courses were more than worthwhile. Then farming went out of fashion a bit and numbers dropped I believe, and the University was left horses from Llanarth Stud of Welsh Cobs, so they started an equine course there, which didn't last long and they soon cashed in the stud farm legacy. Then they started 'countryside management' courses and the hippies took over, which was the end of it. The college building is still there but all the accommodation blocks, built new in the 1970's, have long been demolished. The College of Librarianship is still there but not sure whether it is now just a Further Ed college, and the library attached to that is now mainly a Covid vaccination centre.

Trawscoed was one of the network of Experimental Husbandry Farms dotted around the UK after the War years when agriculture productivity was important to everyone and farmers were respected. It's all gone to hell in a handbasket since the late 1980's. I mean the whole job and the relevance of farmers in the UK generally.

That's interesting. I wonder if the local dealer, Lloyds Dairy Centre is looking after them or whether DeLaval have specialists for such complex kit?
Lloyds were out in force, so can probably assume it’s their responsibility. They’re moving into Pembrokeshire after the well respected dealership lost the DeLaval agency, through absolutely no fault of their own. I’m more than a bit worried as I have a DeLaval parlour that we upgraded to auto ID with Delpro software. DeLaval do not care less for their dealerships or their customers.

I hope Lloyds aren't taking on too much. More than they can cope with. I agree that DeLaval are not exactly customer focussed and their parts are obscenely expensive.

I'm left wondering though, if not their own, whose fault it was that the Pembrokeshire dealer lost the franchise? Pretty sure that Lloyds will not have pushed to get it for themselves.

is there anything wrong with a boumatic parlour ?
I milked in a herringbone one for 2 years and can say it ran fairly smoothly, some things were a total waste of money as they didn't work but overall a good solid parlour imo, didn't have a lot go wrong either, if I were in the market for a new parlour (which I am most certainly not) I 2ould definitely be giving them a ring

No fault on the dealer’s part, just that DeLaval want large dealers, my dealer said the sums didn’t add up with the risk involved. There are a lot of Pembrokeshire Delaval parlour owners that are more than a bit upset, maybe it will be fine, but if you have a breakdown mid milking and the on call engineer is at the Trawscoed robots, I can’t see them turning up promptly, like the local dealer always has.

They will need to have several on-call engineers, 365 days a year. However there may be an opening for independents with experience to club together to provide a non-franchised cover, possibly with the cooperation and in collaboration with Lloyds, if they have their heads screwed on right.
Not sure whether there is a line of succession at Lloyds in the medium to longer term?

Access to DeLaval parts for a non franchise dealer will be problematic, so can’t see anyone wanting the bother.
From a personal perspective DeLaval have never given two stuffs for their customers, I stuck with them as the dealer is excellent , they’ve royally shat on them too.
