Better save up then.

Dog prices have gone nuts. I would put aside £1000 and hope you get it for less.
And I'm not kidding

Alternatively, wait until all this pandemic snizzle is over when dog prices will fall like a stone when the rescue centres are full ......

Plenty on here, how reliable is anyones guess, although most seem to work with a deposit system operated by the website.

In truth I pulled £1k out of the air a bit ... but looking at those prices, someone is havin' a laff.

WTF. Be better (& a lot cheaper) buying a black rat and calling it Bonzo

It’s gone mad on the puppy front hence why all the dog thefts , dirty thieving pikies have caught on and shipping them about for breeding , got a sort in our village who advertises on his page , handy when he keeps it public , got some pug cross terriers for £1200 , they are inbreed horrible things , also heard of honest folk selling pups for a reasonable amount only for the buyer to sell straight on for more money , lock down is creating serious issues that dogs that never should breed are having pups.

All very true. Only positive thing about them being a fortune it might put people off who don’t really want one I suppose. Re homing places are already seeing the fallout.

Dunno about that, PetsforHomes type site abound with optimists trying to sell on their unwanted young dogs. Not seen much evidence locally in teh small rescue place.

I am not sure I would want an untrained 12mo dog TBH. And they still ask for a hefty donation as well.

All very sad really , plenty of muppets wanting puppies just for the poor sods to be left indoors all day , really needs to be a license in place to prevent a certain type of breeder but as always if there’s demand some body will supply but there’s bound to be dogs in rescue centres as a fall out from covid which will never be rehoused

Well, I can find a good and safe, working home for a Lab and a Terrier tomorrow. Saw a couple of Labs in the past few weeks, one I liked, but the parents were not working stock. Also, I am not going to be choosing a pup at 2 weeks as a local Breeder asked a couple of days ago...

Too many offering suspect genetics for mega-inflated prices. The market economy in full swing....

In theory, working breeds that are too hyper for pet homes should end up in re-homing centres nicely socialised and at just the right age to start training! I know of a big commercial breeder of the 1930s - 1940s who bred just such a dog and sold to pet homes with the guarantee that he's buy them back later at the same price if they proved unsuitable (which, of course, was the plan!).

I'm told a lot of the best British working terriers went to Europe where badger hunting is legal under licence. Maybe our own authorities could learn something. Let those who know do the badger culling and spend the money saved on the NHS. Britain was once the source of good working dogs for the rest of the world, these days probably not thanks to the KC!

Trust me we have far better terriers than on the continent. We also have a lot of crap to. But you won’t find better working terriers in the world than in the U.K. and Ireland.
I haven’t been an done any digging in Europe but if you watch some of the artificial rials on the interweb, I would say they’re a good way to breed jacker’s, keep lifting them after ten mins an so on!! If you want workers there’s plenty out there but the men that have the reliable proper workers aren’t the ones that shout the loudest in my experience!! Many a dog has been tried off a big mouth an when faced with a proper days work has been found wanting!!!

The price of pups has been mad. Down south around the Home Counties people are getting bored with their dogs. Last spring and summer was great time furlough and good weather. winter has been wet and the “townies” are fed up exercising them. they are trying to get rid of them. Come the summer they will find them a pain as they want to travel etc There will be an abundance of badly behaved dogs and pups bred for no market.

It’s also the ruination of working breeds. Often wish there was a rule to stop people breeding working breeds for pets. Patterdales are a great example, they shouldn’t be bred for the pet market. Why the hell would someone breed pups out of pats that won’t do a days work, just for the pet market. There are plenty of other breeds abs plenty of jackers to put in pet homes without the attempt at ruining a good home grown breed because fluffy is a nice pet so we should have pups out of her

Reading over breakfast about the Hamilton brothers who own a breeding factory in N Ireland.
Apparently have over 800 bitches of various breeds across 3 sites so can offer the latest “must have” cross.

Selling pups for upwards of £2k certainly pays the mortgage

However, I must stress that this is a fully licensed operation that satisfies all the regulations including “Lucy’s Law”
