Payment Security Using Email

I have had occasions where on booking hotels and occasional purchases where credit card details have been requested including the cvv number.

I have never included the cvv in the same email as I believe there is a very high risk of my details being used fraudulently by someone with access to these emails. I prefer to phone and give the number or even send a separate email with a request to delete the number once payment has been made.

Am I being unduly concerned? I have my doubts if it was used fraudulently by someone having access to a single email with all the details on then I doubt the card issuer will repay the money!

A big no no imo. It’s far too easy for the emails to be passed on or stored on a computer only for it to be sold on.

Believe it or not a fax machine is the job for this if you’ve got one and then the recipient has no excuses. All the big name hotels use fax rather than email.

When buying something on-line, if they do not have a proper method, i.e Worldpay or similar, then that would be a red flag for me. Sending your credit card details by ordinary e-mail is a very big NO NO.
