did anyone see the tv programme about the american scientist who spent years trying to breed a new wheat variety, this was in the war years, down in mexico, he suceeded, i think he was awarded a nobel award, he then was asked to help newly independent india, who up till that point were heavily dependent on usa wheat imports to stave off famine? the indians when they adopted his way of growing wheat with the right fertilizer etc etc had the best harvest by one and a half times ? but even he admitted that with the worlds population growth this increase would only last for 20 -30 years ?

thats the man, what i find quite remarkable is that the worlds population has more than doubled since he was doing this, yet food production has kept up to feed the increase ?
