Pea moth

Has this been some record year for pea moth?
Nothing more represents spring in the foodies year than a dish of the first new years pea risotto.
We had the best looking crop of peas in the garden for long time thanks to the warm spring and plenty of Irrigation
To my horror though the moth has got into 70/80% of the pods , sometimes 5/6 maggots in each.
I have never seen anything like it.
Is there anything I can do in future to prevent a repeat next year.
And no I am not looking for the answer. In my 50 year old gardening book, Dimethoate:sick:

Field scale we apply Hallmark with manganese at full flower to control pea moth. But there are pheromone traps you can buy which will actually give you an indication of the number of males flying around, and then decide whether to spray or not. Dimethoate is long gone luckily.

Yikes, current PGRO guidance is to spray at end of flowering - technically illegal to spray plants in full flower I believe.

No full flower is the recommended timing, if threshold and egg hatch has been occurred. If the the spray date is before first pod set then wait until first pod to spray.
It’s been a record year here for them with hundreds and hundreds caught in the pheromone traps multiple times, the highest pressure year I’ve known.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
