Perimeter Alarms

We had a break in last week where we lost a quad bike tools and mountain bikes. They came prepared, cut off and removed all the padlock and chains that they came across .
With this in mind we are thinking that perimeter alarms with sirens and strobe lighting are the best deterrent for when they come back to get the replacements

I have found 2 systems that look like they may work , Parabeam and ultrasecuredirect.com, has anyone installed either and do they work as you would like ?

We have a new perimeter alarm to main workshop linked to one internal and one external master blaster. The photoelectric beam transmitters are Optex AX220 TF. They seem to work very well. Don’t need GSM as it is so loud!
It fair reminds you to remember to turn off the system before approaching the door!

The parabeam is good but will get triggered by spiders, other wildlife and very heavy rain. As long as they are in a sheltered position along the front of the shed they are a good job.

Make sure that you have a reputable company install any beam type alarm system. [I'm sure that Parabeam are one such company] Some time ago, a local supplier of agricultural and car tyres had a less trustworthy company install a beam type alarm around their warehouse, but they "forgot" to cover one part of the yard. Within a month or so, they were raided by someone who knew about the gap in the beam and helped themselves to quite a number of tyres. So please don't buy the cheapest, it may cost you.

We first put a perimeter alarm in during the 70s on the insistence of the insurance co, connected to a Master Blaster siren, thought it was a big mistake to begin with, going off three or four times a week and always after dark.

Then it slowed down to maybe once a month, that's when you realise how many night visitors were coming on to the place.

You do need to set the height correctly or dogs and foxes will set them off.

As I said above though Snow and fog can be a problem.
