Hello got a Perkins 1006 in for a rebuild but pulled the liners and found what looks like cracks into the water gallery on no 1 and 6 cylinders has anyone seen this before? Engine spun a shell and started knocking btw

1 and 6 always suffer from over cooling regardless of mandacturer. Consider drilling the ends so the crack stops. Others will know more about the 1000 series.

Got a full rebuild kit including new crank sat hear so was a bit sick to find that obviously there’s no danger of compression loss when the liner is fitted it’s more a case of the head studs are fastening into a piece of cast that’s cracking away from the block
@ACEngineering any ideas?

Tractor is a 1991 with 10,000hours job for a customer and he wants it done we did look for another engine but you don’t know what your getting with second hand one and a new short motor was mega money

many moons ago we got a cracking 1006 engine from a bin wagon for £250, my late father and i fitted it to an mf 2620 (had to fit side rails as sump was different) think it had around 165 bhp from engine codes it was a monster!!

i posted a thread back in the day on the other farming forum but after a quick google it now gone! is footsfitter on here under a different name?
