Philmac, best, or alternatives?

I've got to plumb a shed and am wondering if Philmac are still better than the others; haven't had to do more than running repairs with my watering system, so until I priced it, I hadn't realised how expensive Philmac is, and it adds up! I've always used it, so am ignorant of what else may be more economical and just as reliable. Thanks in advance.

Philmac has the advantage of fitting both metric and imperial pipes, otherwise I would go with plasson all day long as the pipe seems much better supported by the joint. The seceret of a water tight joint is to ensure there are no scratches on the pipe. The pipe can sometimes be filed down where there is a scratch.

I could never get philmac fittings to seal very well. The seal would always pop out as you push pipe in. Plasson with white nut so much easier to use- push pipe in fully do up nut by hand. Normally don't even bother with the pipe insert on above ground stuff.

Philmac. We have a lot of 1974 class c and no other make can seem to handle it.
Remember to use the inserts inside the end of the plastic pipe if it’s larger bore. Most retailers aren’t even aware of these.

Tend to use philmac or plasson if burying pipe.
Philmac is also great for pipe that's likely to need undoing occasionally.
I don't like how plasson fittings catch and twist the pipe as you tighen.

But if putting in above ground systems, Pipestocks own fittings seem great for the price, which is a fraction of the brands

Plasson with a white nut. Important not to over tighten, hand tight only. Must use the matching white insert or else the pipe twists as you tighten. don't buy the universal fittings.... they're good for dodgy stuff but not regular mdpe sizes.

get some connector bungs if you're buying a job lot.... far cheaper than a tap if you want to disconnect anything for a period of time, you just get a bit damp in the process.

Thanks all, that really helps... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
Imo the problem with philmac is that its only the last 1/8 turn that seals it, which means either if you don't tighten it enough, or if there's any movement, it can fail.
Only downside of plasson is the fact it twists the pipe when you tighten it the final bit. Whether it needs to be that tight I'm not sure.

Edit: I see @milkloss has answered my question.

Did a whack of plumbing in the spring, priced up various suppliers and brands.

Went with plasson from local merchants as it meant we could lay out exactly what we required, adaptors, reducers etc. They did a deal as was a considerable spend.

They aren't so user friendly for releasing and retightening as Philmac but a heap cheaper!

If you know exactly what you want pipestock was the cheapest.
