The perils of living in darkest Wales.I've never seen inserts for black pipe and if there are no one stocks them around here
Some of my black pipe could be 40 years old so odd sizesThe perils of living in darkest Wales.
actually a serious problem, they should ge available, but finding a stockist is akin to finding hens teeth
40 year old pipe will be alkathene, but probably metric, probably class C but possibly BSome of my black pipe could be 40 years old so odd sizes
I’m coming to the conclusion they are unnecessaryI have never used them nor have I ever had an issue due to not using them.
Yes ,all those others are rubbish , if I was to repeat all the swear words I've used on those black fittings I would fill the page , useless rubbishPhilmac fittings don't need special converter inserts for imperial pipe. They will fit metric or imperial pipe. That's why I only use them.
Hi @vantage ,This is where I got a fair few fittings for the replacement water system we’re fitting on farm currently. As an example 50mm T’s are about half the price than locally! As for liners, well anything in Wynnstay is more expensive than elsewhere!Plastic Piping & Pipe Fittings, PE Plastic Pipes | Total Pipes

No problem at all with them, all stuff good. EBay worth a look too, bought a fair bit there too, £12 for 50mm T’s!Hi @vantage ,
Doing a large water project soon so looking at prices of pipes and fittings and looked at Totalpipes on your suggestion having never heard of them . Not sure how , but they are quite a lot cheaper than anyone else to the point you think it must be sub standard or something !!?
Just wondered if you could confirm the stuff is good ?
Eg 25mm mdpe water pipe , 100m £79 25mm tap £24.56
McveighParker £100.70 £61.36
BP plastics £94.02 £36.95
MVFarmers £96 £38.25
Thanks
Each to their own but I’m of the exact opposite opinion to yours.Just don't use Plasson fittings underground, total nightmare, most leak. I won't use them anywhere. Above or below ground.
I'm not the only one who thinks plasson a junk. Been plumbing for 30+ years. Never a problem with philmac. Each to their own but I’m of the exact opposite opinion to yours.
Not accusing you of being a numpty but you must have been doing something not quite right.
The mark up in some industry and particularly, ironmongery plumbing building etc, is dramatic. Just make sure you are being quoted the same class pipe.Hi @vantage ,

The only time I have seen Plasson leak is when the pipe has only been pushed against the o ring and not through it.Just don't use Plasson fittings underground, total nightmare, most leak. I won't use them anywhere. Above or below ground.
Only time I have had them leak is if the outside of the pipe is scored. Had plenty of issues because of that but not really the fault of the fitting. The only time I have seen Plasson leak is when the pipe has only been pushed against the o ring and not through it.

Buy a couple of the cheap plastic C spanners for nipping up fittings. Much handier than stillsons and will be still in the water fittings box when you look for them.
Not small money if you shop at Wynnstay!!
