The new one is likely to cost about £5k more than the last of the ‘old’ ones. It is certainly better equipped in the electrickery department but mechanically it is not much changed apart from the option of the V6 diesel, which may, or may not be offered in the UK due to corporate emissions targets. Time will tell.
The current version will do exactly the same work as the new version at the end of the day but it would be nice to have surround cameras, adaptive cruise with automatic steering and the large number of USB2 and 3 points, including one dedicated to a dash cam that the new version offers. Whether all that is worth the extra cost is up to the individual.

You make a good point. I am hoping they put the V6 Diesel into a Limited spec (like the 3.2 limited I have now) new one but can’t get an answer. If they don’t I will most likely change brand as I don’t really like all this gizzed up wild track, Rally spec nonsense.

I have heard you can get the v6 in a limited hopefully it’s right as that’s what I shall get next time.

Drove a new one recently and very impressed . Nice feature was the door and cill arrangement - no more dirty trouser legs …..

Not me. Two banks of valve trains. Two extra cylinders including injectors. Two exhaust manifolds and soot filters and so on, or the DPF mounted remotely which is guaranteed more troublesome [whether on some four cylinders also. Higher fuel consumption when fuel is near £2/litre. Heavier engine making the pickup heavier and handling worse. About £3500 extra cost over and above the very powerful and refined two litre.

However, it’s all relative, so if I compare the Ranger to the Grenadier, the Ranger makes far more sense even with a V6.
The main advantage of the new Ranger V6 is the available full time four wheel drive. Pedants will argue that it isn’t actually full time but I challenge them to tell the difference in practice. I have had several on-demand auto-four-wheel-drive and many more of the Land/Range Rover/Mercedes mechanical full time 4wd and I really can’t tell the difference when driving.

So I’m in a muddle at the moment as to what to do. In the current business climate and with the need to re-roof a slate roofed outbuilding as well, and considering my ever faster advancing age, the prudent way is probably not to replace my existing pickup. Keep the money to put towards a nice last car that will last me out until I am relegated to another Fiat Panda or electric invalid carriage.

There are at least three new models of the current Ranger, with themselves having optional drivetrains of 170 or 210hp engines and six speed manual or ten speed automatic, now available that I have not previously seen. At leat one is just a bit better specced than ‘Limited’ while the other seems to be upmarket from the Wildtrak. Then there’s the Rapter, which does not qualify as a commercial vehicle so I therefore don’t count as a viable business option.
The three new ones are Thunder, Stormtrak and Wolftrak.

New ranger has the v6 from the discovery which doesn’t get a good report on here. New Amarok same engine. Might have to keep current Amarok v6 as long as possible.
