Here's a gizmo that will be appreciated by practical farmers visiting the TFF forum! We read so much about robots and precision farming, it’s easy to forget that sometimes farming is a bit more basic. This simple tool makes every join in the netting top quality. Having made the simple thing in the workshop you’ll get a psycho boost every twist you make with it!

Joining netting generally means gripping with pliers and trying to get them through the mesh, or bending with strong fingers. This plate has hooks welded to it so it can be firmly attached to the wire, and a groove on either side in which the wrapping wire end is located.

All you do is rotate the plate around the wire, and watch while the end is tightly wrapped around the wire. All 16 ends are done in a matter of minutes, with no cussing, stabbed fingers or effort.

Something for the fencing tool box.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
