would suggest getting one that can be worked single manned or one you can get past easily, we have a full width inbuilt one at work and its hard work on your own. We use ours mainly for weight batches instead of individual weights to track growth. something like JP1s looks good for individual weighing on your own.

Best preferably then I’ll decide if it fits my budget. I like the QE one except it has to be tipped on its end to move it and I assume it needs very level concrete.

We are but simple arable lads so want to make it as easy and simple as possible. I have a good team on the farm but they don’t want to start end any longer in the pigs than neccesary. If I can make it all as efficient as it can be then the job will get done right and in as short a time as possible.

QE are also Ritchie dealers

Ritchie crate (galvanised) circa £1400 (electronic weigh head only option now)

QE stainless steel with electronic weigher and weight band traffic light system £1905

I don't understand the comment about putting the latter on end. You can and it has a caster wheel for on end turning

Years ago on the advice of an animal psychologist ('er indoors) I left an old style lamb weigher in with some pigs. The idea was that they would become used to seeing and smelling it on a daily basis and would not be frightened when we came to use it. After one day there wasn't a straight bit on it, they'd got the doors off and I never did find one of the tyres. :(:(

I meant that if you have to move it on the three castors the concrete has to be pretty good. I have since been told it can be just moved on the the 2 larger wheels like a more traditional set up. Can you pm me the cost of the setup with the hurdles and forcing gate please. It may help qualify for a grant.

Agree it can be difficult . I sold one recently with some additional hurdle rod guides, a hurdle to go across the passage and with a forcing gate. He does that on his own

We have one of those from QE.
I have a (female) stock person weighs about 500 pigs a week for slaughter. Mostly single handed!!
We are currently averaging 88-90kg deadweight with hardly any overweights (over 105kg)

It paid for itself in about a week
