Pigtail hp requirement

Hi we’ve obtained 2 very old pigtail cultivators with the ‘C’ tines. Both of them have seen better days but together we could make one decent one out of the two. Ones 4m and the other 3m. The idea is 4 rows of tines and then some foldable harrows and a drawbar to pull a light set of rolls. Bit of a back up machine really but would a 230hp tractor pull 6 or 7m? Having never used one before we’ve no idea. Probably no deeper than 3-4 inches maximum.

If you are going to make the two into one then 6 mtr wide would need depth wheels on the wings to stop it dipping and diving from side to side,,got more than enough hp .
Used to pull a 4 mtr massey pigtail with a 75hp MF590 with cage wheels infront of the tatty planter before power harrows were the big thing

Pulling a 7 meter with 38 pig tail tines on 215hp. Light land no problem, heavy land pulling up ploughing can make it work hard. Depth wheels are essential. Make the wings so when it’s folded out and lifted up they slight hang down, that way it will follow the ground better

I pull an 11mtr with 340hp in stubble at 3” deep. Power is no problem, it is more when a support wheel drops in a low spot it can drag the tractor across a bit. The crawler did not suffer from this but did have a floating drawbar.
