Might look to buy a plasma cutter (it will be cheaper that paying sombody else to fabricate 2 steel shrouds that I need)

Never used one before so not sure what to look for. Any good buys out there?

I bought a plasmapart 50 as I wanted to cut some girders, still getting used to it, but it seems fine. I won't be using it all that much and couldn't afford the hypertherm.

You get what you pay for.

I got a cheapey 'tigmig 60' plasma cutter from eBay. Chinese machine sold by Italian company. Bought it for £180 on auction after many times being outbid. No way could I justify a hypertherm. But for my workshop duties this thing has probably saved me the price of it. Can only cut 12mm cleanly and if very careful sever 20mm. But you would go through tips very fast and probably burn out torch.
In no way is it comparable to a hypertherm but at the price it is I wouldn't be with out it.
Consumables are dirt cheap as well.

Hypatherm here, as said, not the cheapest, but one hell of a tool! Would not be without it.
Check on price of consumables before you buy anything, some can be expensive and difficult to source, you need to be sure they are reasonably priced and most of all easily available, some eBay cheapies may not be?

Mate has just bought one from eBay, £400, British built and supplied apparently, cuts 14mm I think, can't recall the make ? He says it's good, but he's no engineer!

had a CUT60 Chinese, as much as I hate to say it, it complete rubbish, didn't cut a metre of under 6mm before it gave up and the Chinese people I bought it from will not refund

This is the one he's got, eBay item No 271739676803
£389
There's a phone number on the ad, I told him to phone first and suss it out, he did, and was happy they were a genuine uk supplier, he bought it over the phone and iirc they either have him discount or threw in a bag of tips n shrouds.
But I'd urge anyone to phone them up themselves to be satisfied about the company, I will stress that I haven't dealt with these personally.

What is everyone buying? seriously considering getting one, as i have a few jobs coming up that would make it super helpful? budget wouldnt be massive though around the 800-1k mark. Would like something that would cut 12mm plus and run from single phase.

TIA

Got a Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 12 plus, brilliant machine which is in competition to the Hypertherm power max 30. Runs on single phase, cuts 12MM.
Got them on at special prices too, within your budget :)

I bought a Draper 40A and have concluded it's either useless or has a fault, could not cut 6mm plate cleanly, has been sent back

Would have like Thermal dynamics but couldn't justify the price

I have a R-tec P50HF, very happy with it for the price. I would also recommend the double sided spacer for £4, keeps the tip right distance from work which I think improves consumable life and makes running down edge of guide easy.
