I use Rutland, they do break but take a lot more abuse. Buy them off ebay from an Irish bloke, packs of 80. Can't remember price will try find it in my eBay. Top of my head think they 95p each.

If that price is correct they are very cheap. At the local ag merchants you could add a 1 to the start of that price you mentioned
Just found it; £1.12 each but I bought loads had bit of banter with him got them for £1.04 each.
