I'm hopefully building another bowser this winter and would like to plate it to keep it all legal. Does anybody have any idea as to how I'd get this done?

You’ll have to comply to all sva regulations. Call up a coach builder and get a list or website from them to look at requirements. It’s doable but things like lights have to be placed at correct height etc, wheel spacing are another thing. They have to be a certain distance so as not to be able to fall between them. Silly things really. Local company to me are ellis bodies in paddockwood. Might be worth a call. Nice people.

Nice set up by the way @Bumble Bee !
This might be silly but one of my bowsers only has a 2 inch outlet linked to a 2 inch pump and pipework. To be honest it's not painfully slow but all my other bowsers etc are 3 inch so, if I changed pipework and pump to 3 inch but left the 2 inch outlet(as its SS welded and would be a biggish job to change) would I gain much in output or would it starve the 3 inch pump only having 2 inch feed and obviously you can only get so much done a given size pipe but I don t know the amounts. Any idea or comments?

Thanks @Oscar
I think you would be wasting your time using a 3" pump with 2" pipe. We sometimes fill the bowser with water from a 2" pipe and it is definitely slow. No where near as quick as a 3" pipe.

Your plate will have to show the designed weights for the axles/drawbar on a manufactured/modified trailer and it will have to confirm with construction and use regulations (widths/lengths/speeds/braking requirements) . The lighting will have to comply with RTA standards. A trailer designer will be able to do the calculations (contact the I ag eng for help) and then just a case of printing a plate. Not having a plate will be an issue when something goes wrong.

Just another maybe stupid question . One of my bowsers is oil brakes only. Is there a company that you can buy a air/oil kit to weld on to existing axle or is it better and safer to buy new axles with the brakes and kit already built in ? I know I need tanks and valves etc. Think I bought from Tracair last time but that was over 10 years ago. Are they still a good firm or any suggestions re others or axle suppliers please.

To be legal it has to go through the test. Wether it’s commercial, AG, industrial etc. If it’s going to hit a main road at any point it has to be tested. All the main trailer manufacturers have to do it with new designs before they are granted self certification rights.

A few years ago the traffic police pulled me over with a grain trailer loaded with gravel, they mentioned I had no number plate on trailer and no handbrake along with no trailer Id plate. I held my hands up to no number plate and no handbrake,?? he said they want a handbrake as it’s the only way they have of testing trailer brakes at the side of road and for the Id plate as it was a salop trailer and manufacturer no longer I could just make one as long as it had an identification number( you choose a number) and a gross weight based on the axles fitted.
