Podstik on osr this year?

Hello all

As a relative newcomer to osr growing I'm looking for podstik advice in a forward crop in Norfolk which is head height. Don't really want to knock pods off but if weather continues to be unsettled is podstik a worthwhile operation?

Thanks

A lot depends on how even the pods are from the top to the bottom of the plants. Top ripen first and are then more prone to opening. I’m in NE Scotland and we always do it.

Have you ever left a bit to judge it's effectiveness?

We use it, but never noticed any missed bits shaken out
No. But my neighbour doesn’t use it and there stubbles are always greener than mine. I think if you had a tight flowering you could get an away without it but we never seem to have that up here.

same combine / driver ?

a green stubble after osr only needs 5kgs per ha losses ( work that out as a % !!!!). - if you have a combine or driver that can achieve that he’s truly gifted

Thanks Clive I’ll take your comment that I am truly gifted. There is loads of snake oil in this business none more so than in DDing. However I do see a place in podstick, especially in crops that have a big difference in pod development and ripening from top to bottom.

snake oil ( sticky snake oil ! )

if i told you to apply 1lt ha of pva woodworking glue to your osr in case of rain or hail you would call me mad …..
Does it need to be the exterior grade one? As podstik smells just like pva, I'm seriously tempted to try some on a piece of crap osr this year, but I won't as that would be completely illegal.
