Pond

Hi Everyone,

I am doing a research project for my 3rd year dissertation at the Royal Agricultural University on the viability of restoring and improving ponds/ small water bodies. The origin of my project is a pond management plan conducted by Severn Trent in 2020 on a pond at our family farm in Shropshire (UK).

I would be really interested to find anyone with personal experience in pond restoration or watercourse restoration. I have felt so far there to be a lack of helpful information in this area so would be really grateful for any thoughts the forum may have to help..

Many Thanks,
Oli

Hi Oli, I think you'll find it very hard to get any farmer to comment on the topic since John Price was imprisoned for what we would see as as correct management of a watercourse with his work on the River Lugg. Personally I refused to undertake restoration of our tiny village pond off the back of it. Sad really. You would be better aimed at EA and local councils.

FWAG in Somerset are paying via the Somerset rivers authority to reinstate and de-silt ponds, so might be worth calling them. I am hopefully going to 'make' a pond that is on defra maps but has never existed in the 50 years we've been here.

Prof Carl Sayer hopes to come to restore 3 of ours this year, after surveying all of them.
