a quick question steel beam at 355x 170 ( not sure of weight at this stage) what width of building would you get at 6 m bays 15degree pitch and steel purlins and sheets about 5.5m high

Potentially yes, but as you point out above it depends if the same section is to be used for the columns as they will be the weak point. 406 columns and 356 rafters could go a good bit more

The 356 section would go to 70 feet in the light weight and the medium weight would go to 80 feet as rafters only with a 406X178 column so your 356 stanchion Will be the limiting factor after 60 feet span I wouldn’t want to be using that column and at 60 feet a 305X165 rafter would be sufficient So your rafters will be a slight overkill I take it you already have the steel otherwise I would be using the 356 to maximum span and buying new columns

You won’t get planning in our postcode with those sizes we have 16” legs and 14” rafters on 60ft wide and just passed with heavy weight steel. They wanted 18” and 16”

Aberdeenshire 300ft you dont get Agricultural sheds anymore there all classed as Industrial for planning purposes around here

Done a fair few around Turriff area probably about 30 buildings in all a good few years ago now ,The spec would be down to engineer, quite a few farms we worked on had timber frame sheds and we never saw them down here.
