A bit like them not being aware the rope bangers are crap this year!
The rope bangers may have less flash powder in them now due to knob heads off housing estates buying them and using them for the wrong purpose. Portek will know the new regs on this i am sure but wont market them as lower spec items obviously :)

I bought the original model with what I found was an easier lever operation

Some barstewards came and nicked it and I bought a later version where I found the levers to be more awkward and had more trouble with graunching and kickback

I use it now for kindling where it is good indoors and you do not have the risk of chopping your fingers unlike and hatchet.
This is the later model on trial

Now I have upgraded my splitter for a bigger model !

We operated TM 90s for years and that is the reason nobody has ever beaten me at arm wrestling!
The Cat D7 was a revelation. Powered steering clutches a 14 litre engine with max revs 900 and only 120 up but a shed load of torque and pulls from about 400 rpm

I think the lack of hi vis clipboards suggests that isn't for hs2, unless they are working from home now and that video was taken from their last zoom meeting.

That was done a few years ago and it was clearing out a rotten chestnut stump that had sprouted some weak suckers and a hawthorn both unwelcome in that position, so there is a lovely hornbeam growing there now to keep the old parkland looking right

Ps I think I would probably go to jail these days for mis gendering the D7. “Daisy Etta” as a girl when it/ziz/they is really a man or perhaps bi- sexual!

Whichever splitter you get, pay some attention to the wood handling - you need a good table around the splitter beam so split timber doesn't go to ground. Arrange the splitter/table height to be the same as the trailer the timber comes on, so minimise lifting. Use a pickaroon and/or hand log tongs (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Husqvarna-574387501-Lifting-Tongs-20cm/dp/B003B3MH2M). Try to lift NOTHING off the floor by hand etc etc
The advice of a man , who has done a lot of splitting (y)

Hi, has anyone got one or used one?

Interested in people's views who have one.Thinking of getting one for my dad to save him so much splitting as his body is not what it once was (neither is mine) .
Hi - funnily enough I have one for sale and stumbled across your post when trying to find out costs/values.
I'm not a farmer but have a bit of land and bought mine about 18 months (?) ago basically for domestic use.
Have now finished splitting all of my felled trees and no longer need it. I had a problem with it a couple of months ago and it was sent back to Portek who fitted a new motor so it's in really good condition.
I live in Ewhurst, near to Cranleigh, so not too far from you if you wanted to come and take a look but before you do that what sort of price would you be willing to pay bearing in mind that new ones seem to be in the £700/800 range. If we could reach an agreement in principle then I would be happy to give you address details etc. Bear in mind that it is a heavy piece of kit. Regards Chris Holyoak
