Really? I asked for a £5 more for piper next wk and merchant says he can get them for £100pt?

Don't get me wrong, there's trade at the £100-120 plus range too. But that higher number for premium samples of select varieties was quoted from more than one source. It was also mentioned that amongst the overall cutbacks in area for the coming season - Piper was one that was definitely falling out of favour.

Anyone have experience of Ramos ? Thinking of trying a few for long term storage for chipping market. Is blackleg an issue with them? See they have a resistance score of 4 compared to Agria 2.

Have spent hours and hours this time picking rots out of Ramos, mostly blackleg. Needs a long growing season to get acceptable dry matter, although many chip shops will take it with lower dry matter levels.

I have heard 180-200 end of last week. 00 frys.

Me sold at 160. That's easy no resistance.

With another 1" of rain forecast a cold late spring on the cards I see best chipping getting short.

That's because the traders would only take best all season so the s**t is predominating stocks.

Still the lesser quality will sell now.

Pay back next year

The Ground is wetter now than in winter. Planted area down what's everyone thinking.

I only have about 1400 ton left to sell. Or 23%.

Some big reductions on the cards over your way is what I'm hearing. Think overall area across all sectors will be 5% down but higher numbers with the free market growers who have taken the brunt of it this season.

Always order my seed Oct/nov wish I had waited.

I know you don’t grow Agria, but they’ve always made it as tight as possible to try and keep the price up imo. Over in Holland they are easy to come by and this year are around 400 euros a ton. Mine were £600 ordered last year but delivered last wk.

My Markies are 470. I would think they would be less than that now. But ha ho. If they are £200 + come November I’ll be happy and not worrying about that. Fingers crossed .

I'd say the mixed bag of seed yields has kept prices at their current levels. Crops doing 8-9t/acre in places despite a seed input of 2t/acre. It's a numbers game for seed and they were just not there last season.

You'll find the odd deal out there now as merchants clear their books, but for free trade the cost will vary a lot dependent on the variety. Piper 35x50 has actually firmed in price over the last 2-3 weeks.
