I have been home mixing now for a few years using a mobile mill and mix and I agree with wellingtonfarmer that you can’t grow your own wheat I wouldn’t bother.

I would have probably 70/80 clients who don’t grow a grain! It’s not as easy I grant you but none of them seem to go back to compound. Sometimes prices go against you but others for you but doing it yourself you always get the quality you want! Access to the resources and shed space to buy and store grain off the combine often wipes out any disadvantage all together.

Anyone who is right next to a compound mill and has a meal trailer and pays on DD quick might be able to drive a hard deal but those days are slowly going as the mills shut and the ones that are left have counted all their costs. IMHO.
