Will finish planting the maize today. Is there any point in a pre em spray as it is so try on top and forcasted to stay the same for a while? The seed has gone in 2-3 inches into enough moisture to germinate but the one field has some blackgrass in it. Will any of the pre em sprays work well enough for the bg if it stays dry and what are the alternatives post em. We have farmed the field for a while and to date have not had any resistant problems with the bg.

Pre em is always a good insurance if the weather changes and you can't get on when you want, you will still see activity even if rain dosnt come for a while,

My usual choice would be stomp aqua and i guess i have a few days to decide. There is rain forcast in 8-9 days time so i probably will. The trouble is that same rain has been on the forcast for the last 7 weeks.

If blackgrass is your target the choice of herbicide is limited. Pendimethalin won't do much but it's a good broad spectrum start. Cadou Star needs to be pre em and Milagro is a SU so if you suspect Lexus/Atlantis resistance, don't bother though it will clear up lots of other things. I can't think of anything else for blackgrass in maize.

Callisto + Milagro post em nukes pretty well everything except resistant blackgrass and the crop but isn't cheap

pre em applied stomp aqua worked pretty well in the previous wheat crop as i only rogued one strong multi tillered plant in the summer together with about a dozen plants with 4-5 tillers which i took to be spring germinators that escaped the follow up atlantis. Would the flufenecet in the cadou star be better in the dry than stomp aqua?

Cadou star has been very good when I have used it. Pre em only so I only tend to use when I expect a problem. Not as keen to spend the money on it with very dry seedbeds. Milago is favourite here.

I've used wing-p for the last few years with great results, debating what to do this year..ill decide on tuesday when i plough the ground and see what moisture is there i guess

They do this with wonter beans here in oz...dig crop everyday..wait till just under surface then throw on glypho and pre em...will get you one day closer ro rain and a cheap kill on some grasses etc..

My dirt packs a bit to hard so i dontlike to drive over until crop is up...but i could do this on my rented land...

Has anyone used a samco drill to sow conventionally but put the pre em on at the same time?

I put some under plastic last week and had stomp aqua, wing p and predict in the tank.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
