Thanks as ever Guys I have a few suggestions to play around with.

Pump is working but pressure poor. I have not tried a different nozzle but having a quick look today the hole looks rather large to me.
Changing the valve (assume for the chemical line) on the lance appeared to cause the engine to load up.
The pump seemed to hunt a little when running, and stronger pressure when first pulling the trigger.

Make sure chemical suction pipe is either turned off tight or sat in chemical, mine hunts for water if the chemical pipe is pulling air in

Well I changed the nozzle to a finer one and it now seems to work with some punch. The nozzle it came with had a massive hole and on closer look appeared damaged. Thanks all.

Lads would be going round at night, swapping nozzles, you know .......

yes, know of a guy who narrowed his mate's variwidth plough from 15" down to 12". the mate ploughed a whole field without noticing.
