those that can’t cope without bps shouldn’t be in business today.......but support will continue just under new titles, like money it’s a means of control and balance that needs to be maintained by governments so will be

a restructuring of this basket case industry is long over due

cheap (free) money will help ease and pain - and remember FARMING (the trade). has bugger all to do with LANDOWNERSHIP (investment)
Agree. 80% of people working within the Wider agricultural industry are not adding any value, just creaming off the bps whether they know it or not. Bps going will be the best thing for the industry long term.
It’s an over bloated and lazy industry at the moment.

nonsense it will be the end of many hard working family farms, much of the landscape wont look as it does now in 10 years time, our livestock sectors wont have the critical mass to continue and the value of feed wheat/barley/straw will be drastically affected, loose loose for everyone including yourself, a dead industry where we import most of our food from other countries who support their farmers looks the way its going in England

Family farms with no borrowings and family labour are well set if they are actually good at farming.
I’m not worried I only grow for premium markets through my co op central store. I know who the processors are going to want to deal with for large amounts of on spec malting barley and milling wheat.

historically you would be right ........ the future however ?

i’ve been selling rental houses for the last few years to buy more land

How do you square this, we had looked at similar but it didn't seem to make sense. A half decent rental can return 15-20% ROI doubling your investment in 5/6 years, especially a near zero rates. I know tenants can be a pain and there are other costs but so can land. I can see the point settling CGT etc and parking money for IHT but it doesn't seem to offer any return.

How do you borrow for land at say 7-8k even with 50% down?

you dont think more people will aim at your markets if feed wheats £100/t? supply and demand your premiums wont be worth as much if supply is much greater surely you realise this?

But I thought farms were going to be fold? I dont see what bps has to do with markets? Don’t you mean trade deals?

I bet family farms stick it better than anyone. Most of them work hard enough, smart enough and are professional enough they will stick near anything.

small family farms and livestock farms will yes especially those which are rented, bps keeps the livestock sector going meaning more value in feed barley/wheat therefore less competition for yourself with the likes of millling wheat, dont forget the bps element to contract farming agreements, will landlords be able to afford your contractor rates and profit share without their bps? the pain will have to be shared

I am only sticking it because I am not properly costing my time........... but then again where I live it’s as good as a four star hotel so I am not properly costing my accommodation so that balances it out.

I could go live in Turnip Street and work in an office for three times as much (hell I used to do that in fact) but it was sh!t. Closest I got to happiness was volunteering with the National Trust clearing rhododendrons at Alderley Edge on a weekend.
