So HMG have a “target” of 60% self sufficiency

Friggin’ hell
yes, but they also want us to export more of our produce too!
"We will also create a £1 million programme to support our dairy sector to export. This will mirror the £1 million Seafood Exports Package, which will continue for another three years with a further £1 million funding, building on our wider £100 million investment in infrastructure and skills to support our seafood industry."

if he'd said summat like

'after this summit it has become clear that we,as a government, must take action to preserve and enhance food production. As a result I can announce we are freezing the bps reductions, whilst retaining our current environmental commitments, in order to help farmers during this cost crisis'

that imo would be better than some crappie meaningless bs 'letter'

It doesn’t matter what he’s said; they’ll be toast come the next election.
Shame really; as an owner occupier I ought to be a natural Tory voter but have rarely ever found that they have garnered my vote by what they are offering. I don’t feel that they have made good the promises that were made to agriculture in the run up to Brexit so they can jog on as far as I’m concerned.

I'm not sure the rural (farming) vote really has a natural home any more.

Blue, Red, Yellow, Green - all seem to hate farmers with a passion.
