Prime Ministers open letter to farmers

I heard a statistic the other day that the cost of the King’s Coronation would run the NHS for 15 minutes.

Just Googled to see the cost and it seemed to be suggested as £100 million.
NHS annual budget £160bn (https://www.bma.org.uk/advice-and-s...orkforce/funding/health-funding-data-analysis). Number of minutes in a year = 60 x 24 x 365.25 = 525960 minutes

160 000 000 000 / 525960 = £304,206 / min

15 x 304206 = £4,463,084.65

Seems a bit short.

So I reckon the £100 million for the Coronation would have run the NHS for 328 minutes, or 5 and a half hours

Apologies!! Shows my memory to have had a compete failure!! You are spot on with that.

I’m impressed by your ability to find the figures and work it out like that.

I bet it’s printed on shiny paper so not even any use to wipe your ar5e 🙈
It’s printed in digital format, so no use to wipe your ar5e or light the fire.
It seems just about everyone who has replied here so far sees it for what it is.
Indeed, anyone who can’t see through what has been said must be rather dim

But honestly, what else did anyone really expect to come out of this meeting?

Except that nothing has been said except food's gone up and Kaleb "wants to get more young people into farming".

One change that would assist farming is a move away from supply only contracts to contracts that mentioned price! Egg producers have been hung out to dry because they have not been able to receive even COP let alone a margin.
It is putting a little bit of respect and trust back into agriculture that will help the future production and sustainability.

In normal times we can export, if we have a crisis we can keep it here, if we don't have the production we don't have the choice
Maybe so, but that's import/export (balance of trade etc.), nothing to do with self sufficiency.

With respect to Kaleb, I’m not convinced he is a high level negotiator (but then evidently neither are the NFU with all their millions). He’s probably better value than the NFU!
Reported in the Telegraph this morning that the supermarket chiefs are not happy with how the meeting was conducted as nothing was talked about ref inflation pressures on the food sector but it was more like a PR job for Sunack and all he really wanted to do was have his photo taken with Kaleb etc.

Clarkson was invited but did not go.

Whilst kaleb is a decent hardworking young lad he is not actually a farmer and has no experience/ idea of the pressures of running a farming business and really was not suitable for the meeting if Sunack was being serious about food price inflation.

Never has so much nonsense been talked by so few who know so little. Will yesterday change anything? Hidden in the Defra Press release there was one statement, one sentence, just the one thing, in fact the only thing that Government has to deliver. “The Government will protect the interests of farmers by making sure they get a fair price for their produce”. Then PM you can forget endless bureaucratic schemes, grants and consultants, you can shut down DEFRA, just leave us to get on with our farming. This should be our response to the PM’s “Dear Farmer” letter.

Because of the way the food system is set-up in the UK, that doesn't work except for some very large scale producers.
Contracts that are 'priced', also have huge amounts of control.
The price is either set against COP for which the buyer wants complete access to all business information to set the COP
or
The price is set against the 'market price' which the cartel control by importing the right amount of product to suppress demand.
The whole of the sector is affected by these contracts through pricing and the introduction of new requirements which those on contract can't avoid and soon become a rule for everyone.
