The 'female' that is normally on the truck, was on the trailer. Suppose when spreading it keeps all the lime dust out of the hitch mechanism?
That wouldn’t work on a drawbar trailer with imposed load on the hitch though, unless you had the actual hitch upside down? But I dare say that’s not recommended, and wouldn’t feel right tbh. They get away with it on that dolly trailer as there’s only the weight of the drawbar itself pushing down on the hitch and even then it’s got springs holding it up by the look of it? Clever idea though, as you say, to keep the dust out of the hitch.

Funny you should ask. Now is probably an opportune time to tell you all something....

When the truck arrived on November 1st I quickly found I couldn’t get it into low range in the transfer case. I emailed the German dealer immediately and told them. I also couldn’t engage the pto and there were several lights not working.

Fast forward 5 months and we’ve had no help whatsoever from the dealer. Mercedes U.K. have absolutely no clout whatsoever so the dealer has been able to more or less ignore us (myself and Rygor Mercedes at Nuneaton Warwickshire).

They occasionally will bother to answer an email but all they do is ask the same questions: Have I tried turning the switch on the dashboard and am I sure it’s not working. They are not interested at all in sorting the problem out despite many assurances in writing that the truck was in full working order before I paid for it.

A German Mercedes main dealer has acted no better than a back street second hand car sales yard.

However, onward and upward, I’m not too bothered. We know what the problem is. There is an electronic control unit not working which powers all the switch gear on the dashboard. Most switches work, but some don’t. All the major functions work if we get power to them.

I can replace the unit at a cost of maybe £2000 or we can hard wire the switches no problem to get around the trouble for a few hundred pounds. It’s not where I want to be, but there’s nothing I can do about it. I spoke to Rygor yesterday and we’ve agreed the snide twunts in Germany are just waiting for us to get fed up, which we have, so they’ve won.

It’s just a bit galling that they’re not going to have to pay for it.

Never mind, I’m looking forward now. I’m flat out with spreading work at the moment and hope that will continue for another few weeks, after which we’ll get back on to it.
