Quad bike fuel usage

we bought our first quad bike last year an automatic Yamaha. Does the job all good but seems to use a shite load more fuel than the Honda manual I used to drive for someone else

Now that could be that I am now paying for it or it could be that the Honda in question was fairly new? Or that it was a manual?

Anyone seen any significant improvements in fuel usage by going newer? And I mean significant enough to warrant the expense.

I have a 2015 Can-Am Outlander 650 Max-XT. I get just over 150 miles to a tank. It always seems to get this mileage which includes a mix of high speed running along with 4x4, low range crawling in muddy conditions around the farm. The newer models are supposedly more fuel efficient but 150 miles isn't too bad I think! Is yours a petrol or diesel?

What size engine is your Yamaha, and what size was the Honda?

As neither my Honda 420 ES or Yam have reserve’s on the tanks I don’t like to risk it and tend to refill whenever just under 1/2. To me the Honda uses more but i’m really not sure, the Yam gets filled more often but it does 3-5 times the mileage now of the Honda. My Yam does roughly 80mile before the dash starts flashing. Honda doesn’t do 20km and it goes from full to empty on the dash and a crap shaped tank means it can’t be dipped :banghead::banghead:
