I’ve seen a lot of Honda 420 s come and go here. They have their faults, they aren’t worth what they cost anymore, don’t see that any of them are.

Never had an engine failure, lost one transmission. Yeah they need ball joints, cv axels, occasional rear axle housings plus bearings, rocker shaft o rings and good luck with rear plastics. Typically buy 2 per year and just retired one at 16000 miles. The mounts for front suspension bolts completely egged out plus excessive oil consumption. It will be a donor now.

They have a hard life here with 6-10k miles per year, constantly overloaded but never tow with them.

I reckon if it was just me riding one doing the same work I could get one to 20k with fairly minimal repairs, just maintenance. I am a mechanically sympathetic operator, most are not . That’s the biggest determinant of lifespan and operating cost.

Manual 420, no options, take any color is now £6900. Painful

I’ve had 3 420’s the current one has had pistons and rebore but has done a lot of miles. They overheat here when driving cattle or sheep in the summer nip up a bit and cause wear

We've just bought our 4th 420 about a fortnight ago, electrical things have cost us most, kept the last one 6 yrs did 13,000 miles 2,600hrs. We would have changed earlier if available.
Spent a fair bit a year ago, service a wheel bearing, couple of tyres, treated myself to a new seat , probably £7-800, took it home and a week later the power steering packed up another £500+ for ECU
Not had engine or gearbox problems though or bushes or ball joints, still on same break pads and shoes from new

We are rough on them the rough ground doesn’t help. The droughty weather usually takes it’s casualties but the lads are rough on them. Just loaded one up today to get repaired the frame is snapped top and bottom no brakes no ignition

Wow, not put a pad on any of ours, Yamaha 450 we had before going back to Hondas needed new front pads every 6 months though doing same work
These do a fair few miles every day some in a hurry. Road work and flogging through clarts knackers the engines. Been wet this time so can’t pull the trailers and snackers in some places snaps them in half. Need another one really

I have a 650 CanAm currently, which is 69hp and can turn enough speed that I could flip it by hitting a pebble on the road.
Sure, it’s nice to have sometimes, but it’s a long way from being necessary to have that much power in a working quad.

Assuming I can find a bike I like, I’m looking at downsizing on power (& fuel use), rather than going the other way. If I need to buy a frock then so be it.
You will be judged by your peers....may the lord have mercy on your soul.

Unless they are covered in mud or plugged with debris or have some other failure I’ve not seen one overheat. Significantly hotter with us than you, something is amiss

Have you considered CFMoto? We have a cforce 520 wich is getting traded in shortly for a newer one and we've been very happy with it

Just bought a 450 esp. heated grips dog matt £5600. They are selling a lot of them I'm hoping itl do us a good turn, I know a few farms running them and they have been pleased. Service intervals are the downfall to keep the warranty.
