Ransomes 300 series reversibles

There are no screw adjusters on the headstock. just a screw on the slider that supposedly does both sides. I think you would want to weld some adjusters on the headstock like you get with newer ones and replace the flappy wheel with a sensible one. And also I couldn't unbolt the big bolts to change the front width but for the 8 acres i used it for it was hardly worth the trouble. I found the turnover mechanism very good just push the ram to turn it one way and pull it to turn it the other. No trouble with sticking half way over and it looked very strong.

you have read my mind with regards to the turnover stops! I did think if it was possible to weld some stops on the frame/headstock so the plough was pushed tight on the headstock instead of relying on the tightness of that linkage on the front to hold it steady. Our TSR109 had a similar linkage, but with turnover stops on the frame

We shall see what happens tomorrow, see there is a DP7 the same as your on ebay at the moment, that looks a nice one as well. Ive got up until harvest to find one, im sure the right one will appear sometime :)

Had two 300 series ploughs.First bought new three furrow then bought a second hand 4 furrow as tractor size increased. Both ploughs still in use.If you end up with one would advise sword landslides not discs as any trash and will block between depth wheel and disc.Often need seal in turn over box at front but only five min to do.If alignment adjusters siezed will need a bit of heat inside beam to free, ask first as best to do from one side.

The plough seemed to flex and twist a little when ploughing. I'm sure in time it wouldn't do the shaft any favours. Some solid stops would be much better and looks like a relatively simple job to add them.

first person ive heard to reccomend sword landslides? ive never got on with them, had them on a lemken, was the first thing i took off, when ploughing last run off againsy the hedge they were a PITA for gradding rubbish and blocking up, i do like a disc on the back, always makes the furrow cleaner and gives you a smoother ride on the tractor

If i was going to fit a set of adjusters id probably weld a large bit of channel onto the "land side" of the main beam pivot, so that during turnover it swung underneath the headstock, with a pair of brackets welded either side of the headstock and a threaded adjuster what the channel touched when it came round, iygwim?

Ransome swords would not be above surface unless ploughing shallow.Trust me a disc will bung up on 300 series but do agree they leave a tidy furrow. Now have a dowdswell 120 with disc on and that does not block. Also if you buy a ransome with reversible points you will struggle to find points to fit and will have to go back to normal points or change to dowdswell reversible points which would be a further cost.

Id be changing it to dowdeswell metal if i bought a ransomes, westlake plough parts is only up the road from me and i get on well with Mark, did mention it to him and he said im looking about £15 per body to convert to a dowdeswell wing/point

I had a Ransome 300, it was the worst piece of junk I've ever owned. This plough ruined Ransome's reputation, the problem was the under beam clearance was not enough and you could not see the middle furrows.
I had a Dowdswell delta afterwards, it was like divorcing Margaret Beckett and marrying Pippa Middleton. Wonderful!!!

worst ransomes we had was the old TS82 what used to go behind the 990, it never ran true no matter how you adjusted it, would wander about all over, and was such a voilent thing to turn over, used to hit the stops with such a bang because of that pre-loading linkage on the lower link shaft

It was almost as bad as the KV!!!

heres my 4f/rv ransomes, does a good job, the only problem this year is my maxxum is in getting surgery and the dealer gave us a cs130 the tires tramp the furrows a bit but the alternative tractor was a 4230.

Is the depth wheel your own modification? Looks a lot better than the "wheelbarrow" tyre what ransomes usually fitted!

well, went to the sale today, found the reason that ransomes was pictured with its headstock upside down, the cast lugs on the main turnover pivot what holds the ram was completely missing

Best of the bunch was the DP7 with later turnover, although it was 12" as opposed to 14", so didnt really suit what i wanted. DP8b had had some welding done to it and didnt quite look right to me, have to see whats in next month!

Mark from westlake plough parts was there, he said at least 300 for that casting, then the plough needed a full set of skimmers and stalks. It sold for £400, at that price its not worth doing. Think il keep looking for a dp7
