If I was to get a some lengths of 150x10 and punch out 50mm holes every 300mm, and weld that to the sides of my trailer, would that suffice for attaching straps to, or would that need tested etc etc????
I wonder what force a ratchet strap can actually exert ? Far more than a rope, I seem to remember may years ago watching someone recover a bogged Land Rover using a large pair of ratchet straps.
Had a look at mine the other day and couldn’t see anything like you mentionThey have a shitty little square cut out of the crossmember behind the rope hook. They’re really good at cracking.
Must be a different specification, I suppose.Had a look at mine the other day and couldn’t see anything like you mention
has it got box section x members if so . turn it upside down . bought a weeks / richard western had no strapping points so skelled it 180 and drilled every x member then neatly plasma d a neat square hole for hooks to go inThis is so complicated for an end user. We don’t move much on the road using trailers where lashing down is required, thank goodness.
We have a Bailey bale trailer, 2013. Not exactly Stone Age. Only rope hooks. Box section sides.
We have a 2021 Marshall bale trailer. Rope hooks at the front. A few D rings at back. Sides are a rail so strap hook can fit on it.
If I understand it correctly we aren’t supposed to use ropes. That is disappointing to someone who watched a section of Geoff’s agri vids a dozen times to learn how to do a twitch knot
Is the Bailey useless for strapping loads? Could we cut slots in the box section? Or does that weaken it and create other issues?
The Marshall is great for strapping in any location but what if the bales settle, the straps go loose and the hook falls off the rail?
I thought the D rings looked useful but they pull out to be parallel with ground, and widen the trailer by 4 inches at the wrong place.
I suspect this is a fairly typical dilemma for many small farmers.
Is there a simple fix?
There are thousands of wagons out there every day. How hard can it be?
My previous Transit pick up had a loose rope hook, bolts were snapped - by the use of a ratchet strap !!
Quite simply a ratchet strap can put far more force on a rope hook than a rope and dolly knot ever could
