Rayburn sooting.

Be careful , my cousin has been having health issues lately. Eventually traced to her oil fired Aga giving off Carbon Monoxide due to faulty burning . I was unaware an oil burner could do this, luckily one of her children persuaded she went for full check up where blood test showed the problem.
Possibly we should all have CO monitors in our houses where they are fitted

All carbon based fuels will give CO if not set up properly, its not just a Gas problem, it's is unusual to get CO off oil though as the smell of all the other derivatives of burnt kero normally produce a very nauseating smell before the CO gets you.

As stated above, sooting will either be impingement of the flame or lack of combustion air.

Well done if you fixed this,
best thing i done was rip our very ancient Rayburn out n scrap it & replaced with range cooker all electric
but i did fit a Oil Boiler some 7 years ago & 16 radiators right threw the whole house.
Its now twice as warm when needed & use half the amount of Kero annually.
But by crikey it had to have the best grade of Kero or would it heck burn properly
Modern Boiler burn anything
