I did use pelleted clover seed many years ago and sowed it with a vicon varispreader.
Came very dry after and my thoughts were the pelleted seed caused it to fail.

I did 9 acre a few years ago with a vredo drill.
cut 3rd cut off beginning of September and drilled it.next day it had half inch of rain and everything germinated.
Clovers grew to about the size of 20p and grass about 2inch tall.
Didnt have another drop of rain all month!!!
All grass burnt and we had very little clover after

White clover the most popular but herbs like trefoil can be stitched in.
Sainfoin likes dry land

Only lasts 2-3 years similar growth habit to red clover it can be used on waterlogged heavy land.
Of all the clovers you won’t beat white as a good allrounder

How well does red clover persist in a sward? I think ive read about a variety that grows its crown either very low to the ground or underground and is more suited to grazing than other varieties.

1 year if you abuse it. 4 if you dont.

If you cut it low and drive on it in the wet it will die.

As Ive said before, I genuinely think you need a reasonable pH and good P and K values for most cultivated legumes to thrive.
