Red Tractor Officially Scrap The GFC

Seems like sour grapes and out of touch with 95% of farmers, but still doesn't want to listen to that 95%.

He used to represent farmers on one of the RT boards. No wonder RT got into the monopolistic position they now command. This has been our entire problem. RT in total control of the assurance market.

imho I understand the argument for a single assurance brand, but think this has given RT the power which has turned farmers against it. RT has been so successful and thus dominant, that it's become generic, therefore hasn't been able to give us a price premium.

Not only that, but on the whole it doesn't do anything much different to checks from the authorities, but we get an annual invoice for the privilege.
As I understand it the CEO position ( Jim Mosley job) at rt isn’t actually that high a salary. This maybe suggests that rt as a company isn’t actually that successful and is unable to attract the top people.

Now imag(ne how things could have been if rt had actually made some effort to engage with farmers and get us all on board, it’s possible premiums could have been had for us and they would have had happy farmers willing to invest in them bescaise they could see a return on the outlay which in turn meant red tractor could have offered senior board positions more money, which then brings better people to the table.

Gowever it wasn’t to be and they decided to go for a low grade CEO who was content to go along with an aggressive and destructive path which farmers are doing all they can to free themselves from the shackles of!

As a former boss once said to me, “Treat people right and you will get more out of them”

Extra £2/farmer member would get them a decent CEO. They gave themselves an extra £10/member after AHDB stopped the £5/member sub of £250,000.

Unfortunately they spaffed the £250,000+ left over funds on the GFC development. Never to be seen again.

Mr Blenkiron may be happy to give more away to retailers but the vast majority of farmers are not.

He isn't a farmer. He is an estate paper pusher with a lot of staff. He's not a farming representative, absolutely not one farmer is asking for him to represent them over Red Tractor decisions.

Blenky is not happy though

From 'The Independant':
But Andrew Blenkiron, director at Euston Estate in Suffolk, said he was “disappointed” by the decision. “Given that the industry doesn’t seem to want to prove its green credentials to its customers, I fully understand the reasoning behind the Red Tractor decision,” he said.

He doesn't get it does he.
Dear Mr. Blenkiron,

* The (agricultural) industry does not have to prove its green credentials to anyone.
* The processors and retailers are failing to tick Net Zero boxes on their Scope 3 emissions.
* The processors and retailers have few if any ‘green’ credentials.
* The agricultural industry has green credentials.
* The processors and retailers need them. For free. Hence Grab Farmers Carbon.

There, it wasn’t difficult was it?

Happy now?

Kind regards,

A (green) farmer.

Yes red tractor has got it very wrong with the direction it’s gone down.

His last day at Euston is Sunday and he starts as MD at Elveden Estate on the 8th

His comment frequently cited was ill advised but he's a farmer alright. For a start he's always given himself head space from all the pressures of his role at Euston by being the stock manager for their herd of Red Polls

I'll speak as I find, I've always found him helpful and personable and I know he's helped a few on here along the way

imho we'd need a pledge that retailers would happily purchase standard product (hurts me to say this, but let's think of that as Version 5 basic RT assured), but also purchase GFC green type module produce.

This way the farmer has a choice. Sell standard produce or green assured produce. Then the supermarkets would need to offer sufficient price premiums for the green module in perpetuity.

Supermarkets won't want this. They'll want us to do green things for free. Hence they wanted the GFC.
The housewife wouldnt pay for the crops assurance premium on the packet.
