Victory. Social media and farmer pressure, BFU, etc. we've all come together and pressurised change.

NFU and AHDB originally backed the GFC, but changed their tune after the backlash. Tom Bradshaw and AHDB listened đź‘Ť. Thank you.

And Farmers Weekly helped massively with excellent reporting. I subscribed a few weeks back. They've done god reporting.

Now can we get rid of RT and make the playing field a bit leveller
We don't need RT for food safety assurance. The competent authorities see to that. All RT did was charge us to inspect what competent authorities would do for free. Not only that, but because RT is generic one size fits all industry wide scheme, it doesn't provide any price premium back to us.

RT next on the hit list.

We don't need paid for industry wide schemes rechecking APHA, Local Authorities, FSA, vet attestations, etc. If there's any sort of assurance it wants to be specific schemes which add value. Red Tractor is too generic. It's of little use to us.

Red Tractor core standards are next on the hit list.

from another thread (but @Grass And Grain this does deserve its own thread đź‘Ť)

massive thank-you to EVERY farmer that has supported the fight against RT and GFC . ……. WE WON !

and that’s down to every TFF / X / twitter post / like / BFU support etc

the balance of power is changing ( finally)

Excellent reporting from Farmers weekly 👍@AM_Arable @Abi Kay etc why do the big announcements always seem to happen when i’m about to get on a plane ! …. interested to see how this develops over the next few hours …….. fully expect NFU / AHDB to claim the U turn is all down to them despite them being part of the problem originally as AFS board members

Red Tractor axes plans for Greener Farms Commitment - Farmers Weekly

Red Tractor Assurance has announced that it is dropping controversial plans for a Greener Farms Commitment module (GFC), following feedback from farmers.

make no mistake if it wasn’t for social media, every post / like on TFF / X / Facebook and the BFU etc then GFC would be live and being pushed upon us by now

Make no mistake community has stopped this via social media and every post / tweet on tff / x / fb etc has added a extra nail to GFC’s coffin so massive thanks to everyone who has supported this battle, do not underestimate the importance of what you have ALL achieved it has saved farmers millions (if not billions) of future income 👍

Reading Tacon's comments there, it seems it was definitely worthwhile all of us deluging the Ticklers with those completed surveys too.đź‘Ť

Yea, 2,000+ respondents to the Ticklers will have helped. Everything will have helped. Absolutely everything which we've all done. TFF, AIMS, BFU, NSA, NFU members, AHDB Sector Councils, individual farmers, etc.

Next up. Assurance in general. Let's decide if it's needed at all, and at least get it more measured.

Rule No 65436 of bureaucracy - if your proposals wind some people up too much and threaten to damage your very existence, withdraw them, then reintroduce them in another way under another name when all the brouhaha has died down, and those opposing it have assumed they've won and taken their eye off the ball. Ideally do it in a way that establishes the principle but imposes no costs or requirements on anyone, for now. That can come later. First job is to get the camels nose through the tent flap.

Sorry, but this sh*t isn't going away. A battle has been won, but the (very long) war continues.

Your dead right. We as farmers need to be setting the agenda from now on.

We don’t need assurance ask any farmer who has binned it for beef and sheep sales what difference it’s made by not having it!

Unless there is a worthwhile financial incentive we won’t bother with beef assurance ever again.

I don't think it would be a good idea to leave a vacuum for all those in the food industry with their list of wants to fill. Farmers need to protect themselves by filling the place of RT with their own scheme. For farmers , run by farmers.

I’ve heard worse suggestions, however for beef and sheep there really is no point in rt. we’ve been out of that side for a couple of years now and several hunded £££ better off as a Result.

the scary finance lady is happy cos that saving has just paid for a new carpet in the room she has just decorated.

and I be happy cos she will maybe possibly now allow me to buy the old Range Rover I’m wanting.
