I have just been inspected today to beat the 1st November deadline.
My designated assessor decided at the last minute he didn’t want to do it this year, because he is obviously very pee’d off with Red Tractor.
So my previous to-him inspector assessed us. @Clive will know who which one I mean.
All went well apart from my finding my renewed NRoSO membership card, that I had put somewhere so as not to lose it, then forgot where that was!
So a Non-Conformance Report was issued.
Guess what, 5 minutes after he had gone (!), I found it and have already sent a copy to NSF.

That’s all very well, BUT:

I was also informed as to how the new inspections will be expected to perform as from now on.
Red Tractor will now require all Assessors to take a DELIBERATELY AGGRESSIVE stance.
Literally just a box ticking exercises and any delay in being able to show what is needed and an instant Non-Conformance.

HTF can this be right?

Most current Assessors are very unhappy about it all and seriously considering their positions, including this one.
Rightly so!

Any one who comes here enters not only my place of work, but also my home.

An aggressive stance will only result in them having a strip torn off them followed by been banned from the premises.

I will not stand for that sort of attitude from people who wish to enter my life.

Remember we’re paying them to do this so should expect a polite and reasonable attitude from there employees.

Time to insist on your own requirements when they visit then, including health and safety briefing. This could take an hour or two, and even proof of double COVID jab for instance.
Written copy of Biosecurity record listing all farms visited in previous 7 days with measures taken to prevent the spread of disease is a reasonable thing to ask.

obviously because of data protection that would require the consent of previous farms visited before it could be handed over.

Anyone with families and especially young children who live on site should really insist any persons visiting on business are Police checked as well! Sadly the whole wayne couzens episode has again highlighted how easy it is for people who are in a position of trust can abuse that privelidge!

You’re not wrong. Surely if RT (or rather the companies that inspect to the RT standards) are sending inspectors ‘round often to sit in people’s houses, then the company employing the inspector should make sure they have a current DBS check for each of them employees.
The farmer themself may be going through a difficult time rendering them vulnerable, or there may be times when the inspector is left alone with vulnerable/elderly family members or children while the farmer goes off to rootle in the bottom of a filing cabinet or in the workshop etc.

Maybe they do this already?

Do the heads of rt have funny little moustaches?
Maybe there are 2 types:
Ones that have a true little (narrow) moustache.
Or ones that think they have a true little (narrow) moustache, but in reality forgot to shave there own nasal hair!

Anybody I have ever dealt with from EA is so young that they have only just got out of Uni.
Falsely indoctrinated, think they know it all, haven’t got a clue and expect everybody else to take the blame except themselves.

Worse still, as in APHA, English was not their original language and they do not understand the word “No”!

Dad had a tax inspector come to the house once. He sat down and all very nice, dad then put a dictaphone on the table and pressed record. Tax man didn't like that, objected, but he was on private property and dad politely informed him he could do what he wants in his own home......

Personally I would be recording the inspection, if they turn obstinate or aggressive, they will be encouraged to leave.

Can't go on.
