hi there got my old digger rewired by a guy that fixes starters and altenator s locally got 2 new batterys a built in kill switch and reconed starter and altenator new key switch and charging light so when I go to her batteries aren't dead as she could lay in the yard for weeks at a time without being used but then could need her for a few weeks and not use her for another month he fitted a 70 amp relay at the starter but lately she has stopped charging and when I switch on the dead man she starts but when I took the relay apart it is stuck together is a 70 amp relay heavy enough for this situation.

Why not ask the guy that did it? What's the relay for? Is the machine 24v? So many questions......

I can't think of any reason why a 70A relay would have anything to do with a charging system.

Put a wire from pin 30 to pin 87. If it's a normal 70A relay, it'll be the two large terminals.

You need to find out what the relay is for.

Photo please. Sounds like a relay has been used to activate the starter instead of an auxillary solenoid? If the contacts are stuck closed the starter will turn as soon as the isolator switch is switched on? That'll definitely cause your batteries to stop charging.

you want a photo of the starter and wiring setup you'll have to give me an hr as it lashing and blowing a gale but that axillary solenoid sounds about right

Yeah but the relay is only powering the starter solonoid (circa 15amps) or at least should be. Could be a faulty new relay mind - alot are Chinese rubbish's now.
I think its powering the starter and everything else with a small feed to the switch to get everything connected otherwise why 70 amps?
