True, but one also needs oil and gas pretty much every moment of our lives as well, to provide the energy that powers our entire existence, and that doesn't come from the UK and neither does the food have to either.................

Quite a large % or oil and gas does come from the UK actually!

I read an article about a month ago saying the rise in depression was in direct relation to the number of ‘non jobs’ ie. jobs that if they disappeared tomorrow no one would really care about. I thought it was a good point. Anyone is happier if there is real purpose to their work. Apparently vicars have the highest ratings of job satisfaction!

I suppose it depends on what food you want.

They don't realise this though, Only time the public wants me is when something is wrong. Got one at the moment wanting me to cut my roadside hedge as its apparently scratching her car, I've boxed clever and told her weve got to look after the Birdies until the end of the month.

No doubt when I do cut it she'll be moaning about the thorns or me making her (more) late for work.

They're never happy

I'm all for promoting farming. However, in MY opinion, That isnt how to do it.
Who treats and filters our water? who puts the pipes in the house to get the water... Who delivers said food.
I think we should be promoting the quality of our products not the necessity. We dont all need new clothes or new shoes, but we are attracted to buy the best label, brand etc... We all need clothes but we strive and aspire to have nice things, else we would all wear hessian sacks if the only need for clothes was to keep warm... Somehow we need to make britsh food that desirable that shoppers choose it over imports. Heck even that desirable that other countries choose it over their own

agree - we don't want sympathy or praise - we just want to stop others talking rubbish about what we do to animals and environment and make clear that we can help fix the big issues like climate as well

The "thank a farmer" stuff make me cringe if I'm honest - I do not want thanks or sympathy, just a little bit of respect and honesty is all I ask

We can live without everything but food water and sun

It depends how big the 'we' is. Modern life and population levels are 100% predicated on consumption of massive amounts of energy, and very high % of that comes from fossil fuels that most Western nations are not self sufficient in. Ergo 'we' cannot as a collective live as we are today without that energy and regardless of how much food there might be millions would starve (or die of hypothermia) if that energy tap were shut off.
