Renault 90-34 - bleedin brakes!

Hi Guys,

The brakes on the Renault have gone soft and only just stop the old bus. I tried to bleed them thinking there was air in the brake fluid, but can only get a small amount of fluid out of each nipple before it stops, even though following the correct tighten/loosen procedure of the nipple while brake pedal is pumped. There is plenty of fluid in the reservoir...the plastic casing looks old with a slight crack which i have taped over, but there are no leaks.

I did bleed the brakes ok about 2 years ago, and topped it up with DOT 4. The brakes have been fine until this winter when the tractor has been sat up in the barn for a few months.

Any ideas on why i can't bleed the brakes?

Cheers, Moog

would that be LHM oil? I know my case 1394 takes that, but i have an operators manual for a similar Renault and it states to use DOT 4. That's why i used it.
It does feel like the seals could have gone in the master cylinder, would DOT4 do that?
cheers.

Had response from an ex-Renault dealer. DOT 4/5 is the right brake fluid up the Ares model when it moved to LHM. Dealer suspects my seals have just perished with age.

Time to get the hands dirty!
