Looking for a loader tractor around the 100hp mark, and am going to have a look at both these tractors. Are there any particular problems with either? Both are similarly priced, hours much the same and both 40k.

What would be your recommendations.

The case, brilliant tractors on a loader, very stable
, better if it's a plus with the neutral on the shuttle.
Hydralic pumps can be dear so best pressure test it. The Renault will have a far comfier cab and ride but I'm not sure what one would be like on a loader

The Renault will be as comfy as a comfy thing in comparison to the cramped interior of the Maxxum Cab.

Cummins engine vs a JD though.

The 5130 will be way more lively, the Ares is a big lump.

Pass both and go for a MX 110?

Has the 610 had head gasket?
Has the maxxum had a hydrolic pump?
Both will make either an expensive tractor if they go.
We had 5130 and 5150 on loader in the past, were completely brilliant with loader plumbed into power beyond.
Never driven a 610 on loader but a very capable tractor in the field and cab suspension makes a big difference to the rough maxxum ride.
Just my opinion (y)

Is not the Case not a fair bit older? I've spent a lot of time in a 5130 and I really rated transmission and engine. Linkage less good and cab cramped but at the time I thought it was the business and I would happily drive one again.

Does that Renault have an ECU? My 03 Ares 826 has several, and it's been problematic, having all sorts of electrical issues and having to have the ECUs reprogrammed, fingers crossed fixed now. The Case will be pretty basic mechanical stuff by comparison, far more simple to diagnose problems. Cummins engine in the Case too, bullet proof. Renault will be JD engine with the attendant head gasket issues........very nice ride in the Renault though.

I agree. 5100-series was one of the nicest tractors in market when launched, but MX Maxxum is much more comfortable to drive and hydraulics are much simpler if something goes wrong. Hydraulic pump is easily available and not even near so expensive than 5100 pump.
5130 is good tractor, but I would go to MX if you can live with bigger dimensions and possibly higher price.

The clutch pedal on my Ares 630Z is mechanical, which i like, as there is less to go wrong, but if it was a loader tractor i'd probably be needing a new knee joint by now.

Nothing specially, just normal wear and tear.
But if need to replace pump,it's very expensive to 51's and not so expensive to MX.
I believe they are rexroth pumps and you can get a refurbed one or send yours away to them to be refurbished. Ours has 10800 hours on and the pumps fine touch wood.

They are a bloody big headache :(
What was the issue with Maxxum hydraulic pumps?

I have a 696 area with a loader. Visibility good, ride excellent with suspended cab. A bit newer than you are looking at having the clutchless shuttle. Had it around ten years no major problems, has had a head gasket though

I've got a 5140 with a loader and an ares 697 without one. The transmission, ride quality, hydraulics and torque are leagues ahead in the claas. But the case would probably survive a nuclear war, to prove my point the claas is currently being split to get at a failed damper plate in the gearbox. You wouldn't want to spend long days in the case but it's simple, reliable and you don't need a laptop to fix it

I drove the Renault and it's a comfortable big lump, and surprisingly nimble for a six legger. You could spend many hours in that cab. I was grudgingly impressed.

The Case turned out to be another ebay scam!!!! Maybe just as well.
