Thanks but not an option.

Good move, any kind of large spend on a series 1 MLT 626 is a waste imo. They are too old and were not very good in the first place.

If it was a series 3 MLT 626 then yes it could be a decent thing to do, or better still a MLT 628.

Most of these old 10k machines are in poor health, even 20k machines. Your right at the bottom of the market so you need to know what your doing/buying getting your self in to.

Maybe like you say I might have to go for same type. Might make sense as have the grab, spike, bucket and forks for it still. My old one was a series 1 but not sure if series 2 and 3 use same brackets or if they are perhaps common to any other make?

Standard manitou brackets, still the same on brand new ones. Unless they been swapped for jcb/matbro etc etc

skip the series 2, it is better than what you have but not by alot, really it was only the boom they changed and the controls. The series 3 they swapped to better axles although the boom controls remained the same and are obsolete.

MLT 628T most parts still easy to get, were good machines especially the basic spec ones with out the pilot control joystick and definatly with out the powershift gearbox option.

Thanks I know what you mean but I am at the bottom to start with and to be fair once I had some good field tyres on it has served us well for a few years only major spend was recently on parts for front drive shafts.

It’s possible, but highly unlikely in your budget,

I’ve seen a few go through sales cat th62 and Jcb 526 for around 10k but I would on those machine have a budget for repairs and they will likely need them,

last sale at york was a x reg th62 think reserve was 8.5k but it did not meet it, dont forget for that your buying a 23 year old machine!

Sold as seen kind of job!
I know an engineer gainfully employed rebuilding th62's ....with inc or two upgrades (newer joystick I think?)
Customer buys em as is, drops em round to be gone right through.

is that a good or a bad thing (genuine question), ive never had much to do with em other than driving them, solid machines but i hear repair cost are high if required, we went jcb after considering one as it was much lighter.

Tom permberton. Distantly related but Been trading independently for years.
my handler came from their distant relation, its a brilliant machine, you just have to buy with your eyes open as if its an auction, but you can test the machine in their yard,, nothing wrong with that.

Hi all and Ace, I find myself in the market for a replacement telehandler to replace the series 1 Manitou 626T I have been using and I actually liked to be fair.
My budget is roughly 10k and I need a reliable, simple to maintain machine if possible. It needs to be able to go through muddy fields and used for general farm work. Any advice as only have experience of the one I have been using.
Whats wrong with 626?

His customer (serious heavy duty operator) wants bomb proof pre-computer handlers.

My own experience with CAT is the parts are too dear, but are often reboxed stuff from someone else....so you can often find the OE straight from source if you've got the right intel.

And the main dealer- Finninhgs- are impossibly arrogant, and even more expensive.

Of course there will be machines going about for 10k that still have life left in them. I have sold plenty of them. Bought CAT plant for 10k, worked it hard for thousands of hours and sold it for the same money for the next man to do the same. Real money makers.. Not all 10k forklifts have an engine or gearbox about to blow. and even if it does, just rebuild it if it does the job ok. Plenty much newer stuff disintigrating which then costs a fortune to sort out. Keep looking for the ex arable grain loaders, some still look like new as never go outside!
