Reseeding clover.

I've got some fields of permanent pasture that I had sprayed for weeds 2 years ago.
Of course now the weds are coming back but no clover and they were rich in clover.
Someone suggested I could feed clover seed to young stock grazing the pasture and reseed the pasture that way.

Anyone tried this or have other suggesting for replacing clover in permanent pasture?

Cheers

i tried that last year, granted it was probably too dry but it didnt work
its worked ok where i tipped the grub on the floor so on that note throw the clover seed into the fert spreader

I've tried broadcasting red clover into silage fields after first cut. That was a complete failure , but the red clover didn't take in that field with the reseed. pH is 6.0 in that field though so could be why.

If the weeds are coming back why seed clover? Spray it again!

I found that in order to have success with red clover it's best to apply lime even if you could get away without it otherwise.

Did you grow a second cut? If so it didn't get a chance to establish. Seed might still be there if I am right red clover starts growing later than white clover so still early to judge

Yes I did take a second cut from the silage field but that was last year.
The field I'm trying to encourage white clover in is grazed on rotation, usually in it for 5-7 days then rested for 3-4 weeks before grazing again. Gets 10-15 tonne /Ha FYM at this time each year no bagged fert. Had 2t/ Ha lime 4 years ago pH was 5.8 before that P=1 K =1.
Trying to avoid spraying as much as possible. Only sprayed previously because of buttercups. It had horses on at that time and the owners were concerned about horses reacting to buttercups. Horses are gone now? So will only have suckler cows on in future and they don't mind a few herbs in their food.
