Most likely there was a fault in the gearbox to start with a gearbox should be able to run in all gears.Would it not damage the gearbox? One of my friends once reversed his citroen saxo home from the pub one night, sober of course! Would be 3-4 miles and it wrecked gear box.

Just to prove he could! He's a bit of a hero. Think he did it with his mirrors didn't look back. He drives a lorry in his spare time.Why did he do that
