Rhetorical question, but pressing.

There can be no logical answer to this: but it has to be a question that any rational person globally is asking.

How can one man, or rather one revolting monster, bring so much death, destruction and utter misery to so many millions of people; and ultimately be in a position to threaten to instigate the destruction of the whole world at his distorted whim?

Plenty of precedents
Rome,
Attila
Genghis McKhan
Kaiser
Hitler
Stalin
Regarding Stalin, lots of people think that russia won ww2, but they forget that russia helped start it.
All the war memorials in russia are 1941-1945
No mention of the “ special military operations” in estonia, latvia, lithuania and poland in 1939

Hard to disagree, just a shame you could at times say the same of our own recent leadership, an excuse can always be found!

Once they own the military, and surround themselves with their own well
paid and incentivised people, they are out of reach. The world powers for their own various reasons have watched this all happen since the breakup of USSR.
There are always chances, with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, that could have been taken.

Trouble is there's hundreds if not thousands that go along with him. I can't believe that just one evil man can be responsible for this.
It does seem bizarre given the Covid debacle that we seem to have total faith in the media yet the media is on par with Putin.
Personally I'd trust neither , both are purely working for self interest at the expense of those effected.

Yes, anyone who still trusts the MSM to get their "truth" certainly didn't learn much in the past 3 years, eh? Or the 30 years before that.

I like to think of it as an information war, where everyone picks a slightly different piece of misinformation and uses it as a weapon against everyone elses misinformation - if you wanted to destroy society, it would be a great way to kick off

The Russians have known this for years and have used it to great effect, not least by just slipping the odd post here and there into Facebook and the like.
The media effect works very well, half the stuff spouted by our own media is made up to push their "story".
As for Putin being an evil monster, well Saddam was painted the same if you recall and it turned out that he was exactly what was needed to be in charge of his country, I'd say the same about Putin.
The same can be said about Trump, painted as an orange nutcase but he was the man making sure this stuff did not happen.
Russia is a tough country filled with tough people and they look to the West and see people being encouraged to be any gender they please that day, gay people taking many of the prime time tv slots, tree hugging agendas and just generally being soft on everything. It was pretty obvious we were never going to do anything other than say how outraged we were.

you are obviously unaware that it was Trump who squashed the proposed new major training ground in Poland for Nato troops, something which has been lacking in Europe since the closing of much of the German training areas after the fall of the wall.
It was also Trump who undermined Nato in many other ways too and chummied up to Putin

Yep, everyone's been at it for decades - it's largely the reason why all these fine folks who now "stand for Ukraine" couldn't even stand for themselves. Or their kids.
Despite a total lack of clarity "we know what we need to do"

They simply had to discredit Trumpski because he was pretty much immune from being shoved around, whereas Obama was involved this crap to his top teeth

It was also Trump that castigated the Germans for making themselves so reliant on Russian gas at a NATO summit in 2018. I'll bet that the Germans in the audience who were filmed laughing at his comment at the time ain't laughing now...

“Germany is a captive of Russia,” Trump said. “We have to talk about the billions and billions of dollars that’s being paid to the country that we’re supposed to be protecting you against.” (PBS, 11/07/2018)
