Does anyone successfully graze a higher yielding herd 9000 ltr + . I am due to startup this autumn so it won’t matter to me this year with abc grazing the cows may be going through the robots 1.8 times a day not sure how that will affect cows doing 40 ltr +

With the gates you can set the milking permission to reflect the milking interval you require.

We graze AB from March to November 24/7 but with buffer ad lib in shed. Buffer just has 3kg home grown oats in the summer and we would be around the 9000 litre mark AYR calving organic. Below is today's figures

Waitrose free range range dairy scheme now specifying cows have access to grass and access to housing for the 180 day period during summer ? Free range milk they calling it i think
Cows used to go out where I worked in Canada, had access to grass.

Fact was the grass was for lying on and the bunker was always full of TMR.

Hi chips do you find it difficult to maintain grass quality with ad lib buffer do you constantly have to top/mow after the cows or do you run dry cows after the milkers

Dry cows after milkers when needed and where water allows. Biggest problem I get when I do top is scc during summer months I think due to the flail spreading muck all over the field and then not washing in. And so I try to move onto silage aftermath until the Autumn

80% of what?

Set on time. So if they have milking permission or not. The milking interval is set by us on litres and stage in lactation. Its a dark art lol
It's clearly a dark art!!. The 80 percent refers to the individual cow's expected milk yld/ target. For most cows this is set at 6 lts so if she arrives at gates at 75 percent of her expected yld she's sent to next paddock...if 80 or higher she's given access to shed and not allowed out until she's milked. Sounds similar to what you are saying but I'm not sure..

Is there a sweet spot or is it a constant juggling act..

Obviously lazy cows/ late lactation cows jimmy this so it's not particularly good..nor does it enable me to stop certain cows leaving the shed . Everything is done on target milk percent..

I'm wondering if fullwood users have a can't leave shed setting for their gates..

Not sure how the full wood system works now, I know when I bought our robot lely had a lot better integration of the grazing gate into the robotsoftware, it is dead easy to set the gate to keep individual or groups of cows inside for a predetermined time, eg it’s vet day in the morning so this evening I just set a list of cows to stay inside between midnight and 9am.
I also have a routine running that keeps any cows identified as having heat probability inside between 4 am and 8.30am so I know where any bullers are likely to be and can check them before penning for service.
1 thing I have found useful is I put a tap on the airline above the gate so I can very quickly override the gate, turn the air off and I can stop all cows going out (fix a broken fence etc) or manually open gate to help a shy new heifer out etc.

This is what i need from fullwood.. but currently they say that live status based decisions overide any default destinations once the cow hits the first gate sensor...so if she has permission to leave..then she leaves...

I can seperate at the robot which is ok for drying cows off or for AI or vet but it is simply directing the cows into another zone in the shed rather than allowing them to continue to mingle with herd mates,. Also no use in the winter when shed is full.

can you expand on the routine that you have running for heat probability? My affi system is not linked to fullwood in any way so there is no way that it can instruct or change cow status .. is this a human based routine or an auto matic one.. (dreamy!!)

I am sure that fullwood have the capability of holding groups in the shed but we have yet to find a techie to set it up..there is no way that i am the only fullwood fella to have asked for this solution.
