Robots

We are thinking of putting 1 robot in and have been and look at both Lely and GEA robots and had reps or from both.
There are advantages/ disadvantages and things we like on both makes.
Is there any farmers that have put either makes in Lely or GEA that could give some advice on how they have found them?

Thanks,
Emily

Somerset, Yh that’s what we’ve heard. To be honest I think we’re leaning more toward the Lely one but just looking for advice on both
As long as your happy you can live with the budgets and costings go Lely. Second to none on service, backup and technical support. It does come with a premium price tag though. I know several and not met a happy GEA robot customer yet.

The new delaval robot's are now on YouTube. They look far quicker attaching than the previous model mainly to do with a new camera system but are around 10k dearer than the previous model which is still being built

Have you priced a parlour? Or is your situation better suited to robots? I’d look at running costs because running costs can be eye watering especially in old machines.
Yes we’ve got quotes for new parlours too, it’s eating up the difference in cost especially as in future my dad will retire so it’s wether to employ someone else or robots which would allow me to do the day to day running myself

You will find one robot and 60 cows is easy with one person, but two robots with 120 cows will take more of your time and you will probably appreciate some help, we have 3 lely a4s for 3 yrs now but my wife, son and daughter all help out along with approx 8hrs a week of early morning help, it runs v well but dont be led down the route that robots will make you less busy, as you will still have cows and associated tasks to do.

Went to a farm in Scotland last week with 3 new GEA robots fitted. Been running 3 months now and he is happy with the performance of the new robot (monobox I think they were called).

1 robot with 60 cows is what we’re thinking. Allows me to manage the cows well, keep ancloser eye on them as well as time for feeding calves etc. Thanks
