Robust laptop with good battery life for workshop

Is there such a thing? Want a laptop to take into workshop for decent youtube/google. Bit like mobile phones a bit delicate without all the covers or do you cover the keyboard with a plastic? Dust and grit being the issue and obv catching the thing and dropping on floor. Not just for workshop but mobile use also. Not interested in gaming technology that so many pages bang on about.

Budget under £1000.

Hell I wouldnt pay anything near a £1000 for my main system let alone a device for in the workshop!

A Tablet in a tough case? Less exposed to dust and grit Add a cheap bluetooth keyboard that can be replaced when the dirt and grit kills it

A smart TV..... might do the job in the workshop but would not be very mobile...

Panasonic tough book or 10 Cheap £100 laptops...

I bought a secondhand, refurbished Panasonic Toughbook CF-D1 for a specific spreadsheet job in a tractor. Was about £300 and has proved very good. I was annoyed to find them available even cheaper elsewhere. They are rather prohibitive new. Very robust, that particular model has no keyboard, but a stylus operated touchscreen one which is okay how we use it.

Sadly the rugged laptops are coming out in excess of £1400.

Looked at 2nd hand toughbook and from company with warranty around £800

Im thinking about the rugged case and get something to go over keyboard.

I'd just buy a cheap one and keep it in a cupboard and have another for the house. All info on cloud.

IPad in an Otter Case will do what you want in the workshop. Have one in the tractor and it’s great.

Check out what Otterbox and Griffin do in terms of tablet tough cases and which tablets they will do. A genuine tough laptop will be designed for the job and won't be cheap, can find second hand though.

These cases and machines all become bulkier and heavier with this sort of protection mind.

Exactly the same here, IPad and otterbox in the tractor, couldn’t tell you how many times it’s been dropped and the iPad still looks new without the case on.

We do that as well, the spreadsheet work for the particular job that tractor does (feeding dry sows) isn't as demanding as that needed in the other tractor where we have the Panasonic, for feeding 340 farrowing paddocks at a rate that changes in each paddock every day, according to date of birth.
Both are excellent for their particular tasks, an Otter Box for the iPad, together with Ram Mounts for both.

dont want ipad want a big laptop for vids and for general use inclu for the kids etc. I think the case is the only option and finding some kind of keyboard covers - if anyone knows.

We are going to be fixing cars over winter we'll be watching youtubes and vids. update costs on spreadsheet etc.

Def want warranty.
